Florence, the city of Love!
Our Florence expedition kept us mesmerized at almost every step as we walked hand in hand to explore every corner of the Florence. Be it the serenity of enjoying some great music in the moon lit night or climbing for Michelangelo Square, every moment was well explored. This post is all about “Piazzale Michelangelo”, a square dedicated to renowned artist Michelangelo Buonarotti. Our 4 hours experience over here has been etched in our memories forever.

The fascinating Skyline of Florence
Well, until we experienced the beauty of this outdoor terrace, we never knew how enchanting the sunset there could be. This Piazza is on the banks of River Arno and gives you ample opportunity to witness the breathtaking views of the beautiful city and the river, as it glitters with the onset of sunset. This square was designed in mid late 1800, by the architect Giuseppe Poggi. And this free spot is one of the best to be a testimony of the views. Every step taken uphill to reach this square is worth the views you get to see.
This piazza is almost buzzing with tourists most of the time. There are ample vendors and many eateries on this terrace to help you enjoy some snacking while creating memories. It has a bronze replica of Michelangelo’s David, did you know where is the original one?Well, the original one is displayed at La Accademia Gallery in Florence itself.
FOTW’s experience at Piazzale Michelangelo
We sighed as we climbed up the last stair leading here. And at the same moment, we exclaimed. It was evening and sunset time was after an hour. The sky was somewhat cloudy but clear enough. The beautiful city who gave birth to amazing artists was in front of our eyes. River Arno, canals and the city across, it was all being captured in our eyes. Hands were not deviating from the DSLR to capture the magnificence. While sighting, we gauged on some pasta and sandwiches and sat down.
Should we stay for some more time? The musical sets were being installed as the evening was about to fall in another hour. And it made us excited enough to stay, hardly did we knew that something stupendous was to be witnessed.
The most beautiful Sunset of our life :
As the sun began to set, the sky looked ferocious with glowing orange-red- yellow ball. Wow! The clouds made it all the more magical as the rays started spreading out all across, against the blue cloudy sky. Let me allow the photos to take the centre stage and converse with all.
Hardly had the sun just set, turning my back left me spell-bound. The opposite end of the blue sky was full of Pink – orange – hues amidst the clouds. It was a real treat and the decision to wait made our day and journey. The music in the background, cool breeze made the settings really romantic. As the city slowly went into the darkness of the night, it glittered, and this last look of the day made us fall in love with Florence, The City of Love, once again.
Reaching Piazzale Michelangelo :
If you have been exploring Florence on foot like us, you can walk upto Piazzale Michelangelo. Climb uphill from the Piazza Poggi which is at the base. The stone steps led us straight to this square. But few steps before, we saw a beautiful Rose Garden (Giardino delle Rose) to our left. We enjoyed some 20-30 minutes in this garden full of Roses.
Alternatively, one can also take the city bus nos. 12 or 13 to help you reach the top or you can drive by yourself /book a taxi also. While returning, it was dark and so we opted for the city bus to take us down the hill.
#FOTW recommends : Spend 2-3 hours here, reach before sunset and experience the amazing skyline of Florence. Witness the sunset and the city as the night falls.
